- Scope and ContentExamination of William Parker: I am now about 75 years of age. I was born at Irchester in the County of Northampton where I lived with my father William Parker until I was about 17 years of age. I learned his business of mat making during that time but was never apprenticed to the trade. I then went as a substitute for another man into the Northamptonshire Militia where I served for not quite two years. The militia was out at Winchester all the time. After I left the militia I went to live at Wootton in the County of Bedford where i followed the trade of a mat maker for nearly a year when I married. Afterwards I and my wife went back to Irchester where I remained 3 years as near as I can guess. I then came to Stevington and have been here ever since. I never rented anything at any higher rate than five pounds ten shillings nor did I ever pay rates or taxes. I and my present wife Betsy are nowchargeable to the parish of Stevington. I never served an apprenticeship or held any office or rented any property by which I could become chargeable to the parish of Stevington. With suspension of order as William Parker unable to travel due to sickness and infirmity.
