    Abstracting as follows: The whole [1926-1945] (I) Conveyance and endorsements as in Z945/3 (II) Legal Charge of 30 Nov 1937 from Mildred Faulkner Stevens and Mabel Bates, both of The Down, Guest House, Dunstable, spinsters, to Joseph Richard Labrum of Linslade, gent. to secure £2000 with interest at 5%, of: (a) land of which both mortgagors were seised, a piece or parcel of land on the E side of and near to High St. North, Dunstable bounded on the W by property of Harry Spaul Rixson fronting to High Street North, the N by property then or formerly of the Trustees of Jane Cart’s Charity, the E by property then or late of Harry Spaul Rixson and on the S by the right of way mentioned below (dimensions for each of the abutting sides of the land being given), with the two buildings and premises erected on the same, as conveyed to the mortgagors by Harry Spaul Rixson by a Conveyance of 9 Nov 1931, with and subject to a right of way as in Z945/3 (b) land of which Mildred Faulkner Stevens was seised, a messuage or tenement, shop, dwellinghouse and premises on the E side of High St. North known as 36 High St. North as conveyed in /4 (I). (III) Intermarriage of Mildred Faulkner Stevens of the Downs Guest House, Whipsnade Road, Dunstable] with Paul Gomes [of 276 Beulah Hill, Upper Norwood] on 3 Feb 1939 [at Croydon Register Office]. (IV) Vacating receipt for (II) dated 24 July 1943, payment having been made by Paul Gomes of The Bungalow, Bidwell near Houghton Regis, compiler, and his wife Mildred Faulkner Gomes. (V) Legal charge of 20 Aug 1943 from Paul Gomes to Barclays Bank Ltd of Whipsiderry Cafe, High St. North, Dunstable being land as in (II) as conveyed from Mildred Faulkner Stevens to Paul Gomes/Mildred Faulkner Stevens on 18 Dec 1939 and subject to a Lease dated 1 July 1937 from Mildred Faulkner Gomes (then as Mildred Faulkner Stevens) to Elizabeth Denby. (VI) Vacating receipt for (V) of 3 Nov 1945. (VII) Legal charge of 5 Nov 1945 from Mildred Faulkner Gomes formerly of The Downs Guest House, Dunstable but then of 28 Marlborough Road, Luton, and Paul Gomes of the same address to Percy William Lockhart of ‘Cordova’ West Street, Dunstable and Ethel Lucy Isles of 9 Park Road, Dunstable, widow, to secure £2000 with interest at 4.5% p.a., of: (a) land as in (II)(b). (b) land as in (II)(a) Part [1928-1939] (VIII) Conveyance as in Z945/4(I) (IX) Conveyance dated 22 June 1931 from the purchasers in (VIII) of Luton New Buildings, Manchester St. Luton to Mildred Faulkner Stevens of 20 Old Bedford Road, Luton, spinster, for £1100, of the premises as in (VIII). (X) Mortgage by demise for 3000 years, dated 23 June 1931, from Mildred Faulkner Stevens to Jeanie Bowman Haye of 2 Holly Park Gardens, Finchley, London, widow, Margaret Rose Newman, wife of Henry Edward Newman of same, journalist, and Charles Edgar Knowles of Luton, solicitor, to secure £750 with interest at 5.5%, of the premises as in (IX). (XI) Mortgage by demise for 3000 years, dated 24 June 1931, from Mildred Faulkner Stevens to Charles Henry Gough Knowles of Castle Street, Luton, solicitor, to secure £150 with interest at 5%, of the same premises. (XII) Death of Jeanie Bowman Haye, 17 Aug 1931 (XIII) Transfer of (X) from Mildred Faulkner Stevens (then of 15 Lyttleton Court, London N3, journalist) and Charles Edgar Knowles to Annie Kirkland Meikle, wife of Andrew Frederick Thomson Meikle of Jasmine House, Hopton-by-Diss (Norfolk), dealer in antiques. (XIV) Death of Charles Henry Gough Knowles on 6 Apr 1935 having in his will of 15 Mar 1884 appointed his wife Louisa Marie Knowles sole executrix; and grant of Letters of Administration. with the will annexed out of the Principal Probate Registry on 10 May 1937 to Charles Edgar Knowles of 22 Castle St., Luton, solicitor, and Doris Muriel Stanbridge, wife of Percy Henry Stanbridge of 42 Brantwood Road, Luton, hat manufacturer, lawful children and only persons entitled to the estate of the deceased. (XV) Sub-Mortgage of 29 July 1935 from Annie Kirkland Meikle (here of Stuston Place, Diss (Suffolk), widow, to the National Provincial Bank Ltd., of the legal charge on 36 High St. North, Dunstable; endorsed with a receipt dated 7 Mar 1936. (XVI) Transfer and Further Charge dated 9 Mar 1936 from Annie Kirkland Meikle and Mildred Faulkner Stevens, the formerly of 20 Old Bedford Road, Luton, but then of 36 High St. North, Dunstable, spinster, as borrower, to Arthur Cooke of Great Bramingham near Luton, farmer, to secure the sum of £750 and an additional £350 with interest at 4.5%. (XVII) Vacating receipt dated 24 May 1937 endorsed on (XI) acknowledging receipt of the loaned sum by the personal representatives in (XIV). (XVIII) Vacating receipt dated 11 Nov 1937 endorsed on (XVI) acknowledging receipt of all the loaned monies secured by that mortgage. (XIX) Lease for 21 years from Mildred Faulkner Stevens to Elizabeth Denby, wife of Edward William Denby of Leighton Buzzard, caterer, of 36 High St. North, Dunstable. Rent: £130, £145 and £160 for the three periods of 7 years each. (XX) Marriage as in (III) (XXI) Conveyance dated 18 Dec 1939 from Mildred Faulkner Gomes, wife of Paul Gomes of the Downs Guest House, Dunstable, to Mildred Faulkner Gomes/Paul Gomes, of land in (II)(b) subject to the charge of £2000 in (II) owing to J.R.Labrum and being property belonging to the grantees as party of the assets of a partnership recently formed between them, upon trust for sale. Remaining part [1927-1939] (XXII) Conveyance dated 23 March 1927 from Edmund Hugh Woods and George Tompkins, both of 23 Guildford St., Luton, straw hat manufacturers, to Harry Spaul Rixson of ‘Ye Olde Retreate’, High St. South, Dunstable, antique dealer, for £1500, of: (a) piece of land situate on the E side of High St. North Dunstable bounded on the N by property then or formerly of the Trustees of Jane Cart’s Charity, E by other property of the vendors contracted to be sold to the Borough of Dunstable, and on the S by other property of the vendors contracted to b sold to Eleanor Wilson and Marion Ethel Wilson together with the shop and premises erected on the same and the 2 rooms belonging thereto over the gateway; and together with the right to support of the said rooms by the N wall of the said property contracted to be sold to Eleanor Wilson and Marion Ethel Wilson; except and reserving to the vendors a right of way under the gateway and over the cartway to serve adjoining properties on the E and S sides, and a right to construct and maintain a sewer under the cartway. Acknowledgement to produce Z945/2-3. (XXIII) Conveyance dated 9 Nov 1931 from Harry Spaul Rixson to Mildred Faulkner Stevens and Mabel Bates, for £300, of land as in Z945/2 upon trust for sale. (XXIV) Legal Charge dated 10 Nov 1931 from Mildred Faulkner Stevens/Mabel Bates both of 36 High St. North, Dunstable, spinsters, To Harry Spaul Rixson of the same premises to secure £250 with interest at 5% per annum. (XXV) Transfer and Further Charge dated 2 Mar 1936 from Harry Spaul Rixson and the borrowers to Thomas Camp of 37 Houghton Road, Dunstable, retired farmer, of the Mortgage loan in (XXIV) and an additional £100. (XXVI) Vacating receipt dated 30 Oct 1937 endorsed on (XXV) and acknowledging receipt and payment of all the sums secured in that deed. (XXVII) Marriage as in (III) and (XX). (XXVIII) Appointment dated 18 Dec 1939 of Paul Gomes as new trustee of (XXIII) in place of Mabel Bates, Mildred Faulkner Gomes continuing as the other trustee.
