Examination interpreted by [blank] Rodde. He came to Bedford yesterday and met with a young englishman who had the umbrella he is charged with stealing. He had a bad umbrella. The man asked him to exchange. They agreed and he gave a shilling and his umbrella for it. They were walking together when the man saw a policeman coming and ran away. He saw the man pass by the cage while he was there that morning.
