- Scope and ContentGeorge Kempston: on 30 May he saw the scythe hanging in its usual place in the rick yard. On 4 June, Constable Hazzard called on him with the prisoner and asked if he had lost a scythe. Hazzard showed him the place where he had seen the man throw the scythe down. Hazzard jumped over the hedges and passed him the scythe. He was able to identify the scythe as his. Daniel Hazzard: he was on duty in Shillington on 4 June. He looked over a hedge and saw the prisoner going towards a tree in the rick and take something from it. The prisoner went out of the rick yard and down a close. Hazzard followed. When the prisoner got to the bottom of the hedge he went over a style and into a corn field. The prisoner saw Hazzard and threw something over the hedge.
