  • Date free text
    June 1843
  • Production date
    From: 1843 To: 1843
  • Scope and Content
Should he have to try Eli Smith he wishes to acquaint him that Mr Hutton of Woburn, the chaplain to the Workhouse, thinks the boy a fit object for a lenient sentence, he having been employed as errand boy to the workhouse and so exposed to the temptation of having small sums of money constantly entrusted to him. He committed him for felony. He believes Smith is also to be indicted for embezzlement - he certainly ought to be. Though his criminalisation may be owing to his having been exposed to unnecessary temptation it appear to be so complete as to make him a fit subject for Parkhurst. He thinks imprisonment there would be the best chance of ultimately saving him.
