- TitleRemoval Order and settlement examination of Benjamin Emmerton. Removal Order from Wanstead, Essex to Wootton.
- Date free text19 December 1835
- Scope and ContentI am of the age of 65 years or thereabouts and was born in the parish of Ridgmont in the County of Bedford as I have been informed and believe. About 40 years ago I let myself, being then a single man, as a yearly servant to Benjamin Bull of Wootton in the Hundred of Redbournstoke, farmer, at the wages of seven poundsa year, board, lodging and washing. I duly entered into such service and continued in the same one whole year and received my full years wages, since which time I have done no act whatever wither by renting tenement or otherwise to gain a subsequent settlement. About 30 years ago I went from the said parish of Wanstead in which I was then residing to Wootton for relief and they gave me the sum of four pounds and I afterwards returned to Wanstead, in which parish I have been working as a day labourer ever since.
