  • Title
Letter from William Waldegrave, 99 Great Russell Street, to Eade & Hawkins enclosing a letter from William Vizard, solicitor for Mr Whitbread, asking him to sign a release of the brewhouse in Chiswell Street for £10,300, money lent by William Waldegrave to the late Samuel Whitbread. Before he died, Samuel Whitbread had left William Waldegrave his share of the brewhouse to stand against the debt. William Waldegrave wants to help Mr Whitbread dispose of the premises, but only if he is offered good security for the debt. When William Waldegrave married Samuel Whitbread's daughter, Samuel Whitbread gave him a bond for £1000 [Samuel Whitbread's father left 1000 guineas to each of his grandchildren upon their marriage or coming of age]. The interest on the bond has been paid regularly. Mr Vizard considers the bond a payment and wants a receipt. William Waldegrave will not give a receipt unless the money is paid (£1050) or, if charged upon the brewhouse, some other security is offered. He wishes Eade & Hawkins to enquire about it.
