- Scope and ContentRichard Milemore: in July, he was in possession of a trowel which he later missed. Purton was working for his father at the time. On 1 November he went with Constable Murifn to Crawley where the prisoner was at work. He saw the prisoner and John Sear. He asked Sear whether he had purchased a trowel off of Purton, and he said he had 2 months previous. He asked Purton where he had bought the trowel. Tear said, if it was Milemore's trowel he should take it. Purton did not object. Milemore could identify the trowel. The Park Wall was begun in February and Purton worked on the wall from April. Alfred Atherton Murfin: went with Milemore to Crawley. Milemore went to the prisoner first and when Murfin got there the trowel was in Milemore's hand. Milemore identified it as his trowel. Tear said he had bought it 2 months ago. Charles Weston: in the employ of Mr Milemore and had seen the trowel produced in his possession in June & July. John Sear: brought the trowel from Purton in the later end of May. He did not tell Milemore he had only bought it 2 months previous. He had said he bought it 2 months before Purton went to work on the Park Wall. He did not know when Purton went to work on the wall.
