    John Chapman of Leighton Buzzard, police officer - he was on duty between 12 and 1am yesterday morning on the road which leads from Leighton to Eggington. He met Thorn carrying a quantity of hay under his arm. Thorn claimed he had been given the hay by a man from Toddington and that he had picked it up on the road. Thorn said he did not know the man's name, but that he was driving a cart with one horse. He detained the hay and at daylight he tracked hay from the spot where he met Thorn up to the rick yard of Mr Smith in the parish of Eggington. The hay taken from Thorn which corresponds with Mr Smith's. Joseph Clare of Eggington - he is foreman to Mr Smith and lives at the farm at Eggington. Yesterday morning between 7 and 8am police officer Chapman came and asked if he had lost any hay. He found there was some missing from his master's rick yard. Hay produced by Chapman corresponded with the rick. There is about 8 or 10 lbs weight. Elisha Thorn - he picked up part of the hay and some man he did not know gave him the rest. He was looking for his donkey.
