    He believes he was born at Cardington in July 1771. His father was a parishioner there. He lived with his mother there until March 1786 when he was apprenticed by Indenture to John Cooper of Beeston, tailor, for seven years. he served six years and a half of his time then his master gave him up his Indentures and discharged him in September 1792. About Christmas following he enlisted into the 1st American's of Queen's Rangers - a Regiment of Foot. He continued in that Regiment til February 1803 when he received his discharge. He was married at the parish church of Cranfield in 1st May 1803 to his present wife Ruth by whom he has now three children - Thomas aged about 10 years, Sarah aged about 6 years and four months and John aged about 8 months. He hath since his discharge worked with different masters at his business as a tailor by piece work but hath done no other act to the best of his knowledge whereby to gain a settlement.
