    Thomas Loveitt: assistant to Charles Farr, the chemist at Dunstable. On 18 November the prisoner came to the shop and asked for relief. He told him he could not give him anything. Grove turned round to leave the shop and Loveitt saw him take a bottle of Sarsaparilla off the counter and leave the shop. Loveitt followed him. He had a child at the time on the counter and whilst he was attending to him, the prisoner took the bottle. Loveitt left the child and went after him. When he got near the prisoner, the prisoner threw the bottle to the ground. Loveitt fetched Constable Sharpe. He saw Sharpe take up the bottle. Cornelius Sharpe: he was advised of the robbery by Loveitt. He took the prisoner into custody and picked up the bottle. Grove said he had taken it because he had nothing to eat all day.
