Richard Sheard of Marston, farmer - he was at Ampthill yesterday 30 September at Eling's beer shop at about 3pm. He missed his purse which contained several half crowns. The purse was an old canvass one. He was in liquor. He was not aware he was robbed until he was told of it. Richard Barfoot of Ampthill, tailor - he has a room in Eling's beer house where he carries on his business. Mrs Eling called him yesterday between 2 and 3pm and said they were not dealing fair with Richard Sheard. He saw Mr Sheard on the ground on his back. He was quite intoxicated. He saw Wilson and another man who has made his escape about Sheard. Wilson was lying upon Sheard. He went to Sheard and raised him up. In doing so he saw Wilson take an old ragged purse out of Sheard's left waistcoat pocket. He told the landlord who ordered him to get the police. James Eling of Ampthill, beerhouse keeper - Richard Barfoot called him and said Wilson and another man had got Mr Sheard's purse. He followed them to his yard and saw the prisoner and the other man dividing some money. He accused them of robbing Sheard and demanded the money and the purse from them. Wilson gave him 2 half crowns. The other man abused him and ran away. Wilson followed but was overtaken by police constable Walsh. Charles Walsh, police constable no.11 - he was called by Barfoot to take a man into custody who had escaped from Eling's beer house. When he took Wilson he was very violent and used very bad language and said he knew nothing about the robbery. Wilson said it was the landlord and the tailor who did it. John Wilson - he saw Mr Sheard in the landlord's workshop and his pockets were being searched by the landlord and the tailor Barfoot.
