    Thomas Beeson of Luton, blocker - last night he had 2 half crowns and 3 shillings in his pocket when he went to bed. Burroughs slept in the same room as him at Mr Wallers public house at Streatley. Three others slept in the same room. When he got up he felt in his trousers and found his money gone. He suspected Burroughs and followed him to where he was at work in a barley field at Lilley. He was present when the constable searched Burroughs. They found 2 half crowns in his pocket. He can swear to them as his as one was worn away on one side and the other had a particular black mark on the reverse. John Kitchener, police constable - he went with Beeson and followed Burroughs to Lilley. he searched Burroughs and found 2 half crowns and 8 shillings in silver. Beeson identified the half crowns as his property immediately. Burroughs said he did not take the money. He took Burroughs into custody.
