- Scope and ContentBorn at Hitchin, Herts., where father, Joseph Kilpin, was a parishioner. Bound apprentice, by indenture now produced, dated 16 May 1783, to John Watts, Arlesey, cordwainer, for term of 7 years, a fee of £5 being paid with him, out of Joseph Kemp’s Charity Money in Hitchin, by John Midwinter, Treasurer thereof. Served Watts in Arlesey until October 1783, when he removed with him to Gosmore, St. Ippolitts, Herts. During the next 5 years, when Kilpin attained the age of 21 years, Watts gave him up his Indenture and released him from serving the remainder of his apprenticeship. Served as a journeyman at Hitchin for about 2 years. No other settlement. Married Mary Lightwood at St. Paul’s, 18 January 1796.
