- Scope and ContentBorn at St. Lloyds, Molton, Yorks, where he has heard his father say that he was a parishioner. Lived as a positilion and coachman at different places for many years. Entered service of Mrs. Holden, Hatfield, Herts, proprietor of the Salisbury Arms, as a postilion, about 1787; terms of such hiring unspecified and usually worked without wages, taking such monies as were given. Worked in this capacity about 18 months. Then entered service of Thomas Kimpton, Hatfield, as a coachman on the Luton-London stage, for unfixed period, at a wage of half a guinea per week, continuing in such service for about 3½ years. Slept alternately at the Red Lion, Luton, and at the Cross Keys, St. John Street, West Smithfield, London, staying the last night at Luton. No other settlement. Married Jane Warr, at Cripplegate, London about 1790. Three children: Thomas, Sarah and John, aged about 4 years, 2½ years, and 10 months, respectively.
