- Scope and ContentBorn at Howden, Yorks, where his father was a legal inhabitant. Lived with his father at Howden until aged about 10 years. Engaged himself as a chaise driver to Mr. Baker, The Cross Keys Inn, Hull, Yorks, in late July 1791, and continued in Baker’s service until the beginning of November 1792. No other settlement. Went as a substitute in the Derbyshire Militia 14 February 1793. Married Sarah, spinster, at St. Paul’s, 1 January 1794.
