'The object of the Order, which was suggested by the little son of Lord and Lady Winchilsea, who died some three years ago, is to bind together with the threefold cord of gentleness, honour and love, children belonging to every sphere of life, so that by kind words and deeds passing betwixt one and the other, and more especially from the rich to the poor, a spirit of symphathy and large heartedness may early be encouraged'.
