  • Scope and Content
When Thomas Minards came down the town that morning he [Minards] said "I'll go and see whether I can find this Staff, and if I can find it we'll have a damn'd good bit of Fun with it. We'll take it with us today and then we'll take it to him at night.". They went and looked for it and found it in a garden close by Mr Abbott's house - some one threw it there, he does not know whom. Minards picked it up and put it in his [Leech's] pocket and then they went down the town. He was hungry so told Minards he would go home and get some victuals then come back again. Minards told him to look sharp and be back by 5 o'clock, and to take care of the stick or there would be a bother about it. He put the staff in the hedge so that nobody should see it. The previous night Flint tried to send him away but he refused to go before the others did. Flint then caught hold of him and threw him down. He said Flint could do what he liked with him and he would not hit him. Flint shoved him down again. Flint caught hold of his throat and he caught hold of Flint's coat. Flint swung him round and that is how the coat was torn.
