- Scope and ContentBorn at High Lea, Chester, where father William Thomason then lived. Let himself as yearly servant to Thomas Freshwater, farmer, Great Barford, in 1782 at a wage of £3.10.0d, living with Freshwater one year. Bound apprentice by Indenture, apparently unattested, to Thomas Preston, of [Old] Warden, carpenter, for 7 years on 2 May 1783, the King’s Duty apparently unpaid. Served Preston about 4 years, when he was discharged in accordance with a Bond entered into by Preston at time of being bound. About Lady Day 1792 he purchased two houses and a piece of garden ground with an old Barn, [the latter] standing on other premises in St. Paul’s, from Jonathan Baxter, St. Peter’s, victualler, for the sum of £65, entering on the premises at Midsummer and residing there continuously since, duly paying the Land Tax. Married Elizabeth, spinster, at Cople, 29 June 1790. Sons Thomas, aged about 1 year 8 months and John aged about 6 months.
