- Scope and ContentI was 21 years of age on 26th September last and am the son of Benjamin Spence of St Paul in this Borough, schoolmaster at the workhouse of Bedford Union, and Mary his wife formerly Mary Jones, spinster. On 6th November 1835 I was apprenticed by the Trustees of the Bedford Charity to my father Benjamin Spence then in trade as a shoemaker for the term of seven years and I served him under the said indentures and resided in his house in St Paul the whole of the said term. I was married on 23rd January instant at the parish church of St Cuthbert to Hannah Day of St Cuthbert, spinster.
