- Scope and ContentI was 31 years of age last February and am the son of James Ellard and Sarah his wife late of the parish of St Mary, Exeter where I was born. They were married at Ilfracombe, Devon. In or about September 1824 I was bound apprentice by Indentures as an outdoor apprentice to Thomas Priddam of St Stephen, Exeter, whitesmith, for seven years. I served him under my apprenticeship for about the first five years and a half of that term and then in consequence of a disagreement with my Master I left with his consent. I slept at my fathers house at St Mary, Exeter for the whole time of five years and a half and for about two years and a half afterwards. My father was a settled inhabitant of St Mary, Exeter where I believe he was born. I have done no act since to gain any settlement. My indentures were placed in the hands of Mr Campion, a solicitor of Exeter and I have not received them from him. I was married on the 16th instant at the parish church of St Paul, Bedford to Frances Pratt of the same parish, spinster.
