- Scope and ContentI am 57 years of age, I was born on 25th October 1783 at Pavenham in the County of Bedford where my parentsThomas Craft and Judith his wife at that time resided. I lived with my father as part of his family until April 1803 when I was drawn for the Bedfordshire Militia in which I served until October 1835 when I was discharged. At Lady Day 1800 my father hired the Chequers Public house, St Paul, Bedford which he occupied from that time until Lady Day 1803 at the yearly rent of £12 or £14 per annum. I know it was more than ten pounds per annum. I have done no other act to my knowledge to gain any other settlement in my own right. I have been three times married. First to Sarah Brownhill at St Mary, Bedford in October 1816 who is since deceased by whom I have one child only now living - William Brownhill Craft aged 12 years. Secondly at St Mary's Church to Mary Harle who died 5th July 1839 by whom I had no child and thirdly on the 15th January 1841 at St Cuthbert to Martha Brandon, spinster.
