I am about 22 years of age, was born in St Paul, Bedford where my father now resides. When I was about eight or nine years of age I was engaged by Joseph Tattam of Shefford , horsedealer, at one shilling or eighteen pence a week to take out horses to graze. I remained in his employ rather more than nine months. I afterwards engaged with a man of the name of Pitt at Clifton, farmer, with whom I remained about 6 months. When I was about thirteen years of age I returned to Bedford and worked as a labourer to Mr Miller, stonemason for about nine months. I then went to Samuel Bell of St Paul, bricklayer and have remained with him up to the present time, I work with him as a journeyman bricklayer. I was married on the 13th August instant at St Paul to Lydia Appleby.
