- Scope and ContentElizabeth Stock, wife of John Stock of St Paul Bedford, broker - on 14 May Mr Bridcutt wished her husband to go to Elstow Fair at 10pm. At about 11pm Bridcutt came to her house again. In consequence of what passed she went to the door for a policeman. She could not see one. Bridcutt threatened that if she said she would fetch a policeman he would kick her backside. He ran into the shop and kicked her twice over the hip. He knocked her down and struck her when she was down, then kicked her over her area. Bridcutt took a poker out of the house and jabbed it into the door. On Tuesday 29 June at 3pm he called to her across the street. She saw him coming and shut the door. He twice said "I'll serve you out". Robert Bridcutt - on 15 May he was going to Elstow Fair without calling on Mr Stock. He met Mr Stock in the street, who offered to go to the fair with him if he would wait until he had had his supper. It was about 8.45pm and he said he would be about 1/4 hour. At about 11pm as Mr Stock did not come he went to his house and abused him for deceiving him. Many pokers stood about the door. Mrs Stock took one up and struck him on the hat. He took hold of the poker and in the struggle she came down. He got the poker out of her hands, hit the door with it, and threw it on their premises. Last Tuesday because of what he had heard Mrs Stock had said, he asked her what she had to say. He did not threaten to serve her out.
