- Scope and ContentI am about 27 years of age. I was born in Bridgewaters Gardens, St Luke, Middlesex where my father then resided and belonged. About nine years ago I let myself to Mr French of Golden Lane, St Luke, Middlesex, innkeeper by the year at the wages of five pounds per annum. I continued in that place two years and a half and received the whole of my wages. I then went and lived with my father for about three months. I then let myself to Mr Greaves of St Lukes Charity School by the year at the wages of six pounds. I continued there about 9 months and then returned home to my father's for about 15 months. Not having anything to do I applied to the Overseers of the Poor of St Luke and received from them six pence a day for about three months. About five years ago I was admitted into the workhouse of the said parish and delivered there of a dead born bastard child. I continued there one month when the overseers gave me three shillings and I then came to Bedford where I have continued ever since without ever having done an act to gain a settlement in any other place to the best of my knowledge.
