- Scope and ContentDetails of conditions and other bequests: If he dies without lawful issue, then premises given to nephew William Reddall (second son of said William), and if he dies without lawful issue, then to Richard Reddall (second son of brother Richard Reddall) and if he dies without issue, then to testator's brother Richard Reddall and heirs 'to be disposed of as he shall think proper'. Whereas he has at times several sums of money put out at interest, then in case personal estate at his decease shall not be sufficient to discharge all such sums as he shall have in his hands to put out, he charges aforesaid lands with payment of same and interest at 4% for any such sums not discharged within 3 months. To nephew Ambrose Reddall (eldest son of brother Richard Reddall): -- all his study of books (except books of accompt which he gives to executor), all papers relating to law, gold watch, swords, hangers, guns and pistols, bookcase and 'Scrutore' in my study, and all shelves there used for to lay papers or writings on to be delivered to him at age 21 or sooner if executor think fit. In case said nephew Ambrose shall not be brought up to the profession of the law and said nephew Richard is brought up to the law, then law books etc to him at 21 or earlier if executor thinks fit. To honoured father and mother: -- 1 guinea each to by them rings. To brother Richard: -- £30 to put his family in mourning. To dear sister Ligo: -- £30 to put her family in mourning, and I do forgive her all money due to me from her on my account whatsoever. To esteemed friend Mr Thomas Corringham: -- 10 guineas and 'desire he would assist my executor in making out my Law Bills'. To friend Mr William Cawne: -- 1 guinea to buy him a ring. To friend Thomas Roe senior of Eversholt: -- house and premises which I purchased of Mr William Hanwell in the occupation of Jane Gouldsmith, in Eversholt, after decease of Anne, the wife of Francis Smith, then to his heirs or such persons as he should appoint by will or deed, he paying out of the same the following: - to testator's niece, Elizabeth Reddall (one of daughters of brother, Richard Reddall), £50 within one year after his decease if Ann Smith is dead, if not within one year after her decease. On failure of payment of £50, then premises to go to said Elizabeth. If niece dies before legacy is due, then same given to testator's brother, Richard. Premises to him if legacy unpaid within 1 year. To Thomas Roe; -- all wearing apparel, both linen and woollen, hats, shoes, stockings, wigs, shirts and boots. To James Yarrell of Eversholt: -- 50s. To all my servants 'as shall live with me at the time of my decease': -- 50s a piece, to be paid over and above any wages due to them. To poor of parish of Eversholt: -- £10 to be distributed in money or bread as executor should think fit 'having regard to the greatest Objects of Charity'. To said brother Richard Reddall: -- all mortgage bills, bonds, notes etc, plate, linen, pictures, household stuff, personal estate 'both here and in my Chambers at London'. Said brother appointed sole executor. Also said brother Richard Reddall and kinsman, Mr Stephen Cooke of Leighton, to be trustees of will and receive rents and profits of premises (except house given to Thomas Roe). After deduction of all charges to pay same to sister Ligo for so long a time as her father in law Francis Ligo, esquire, shall live. After his decease, rents and profits to be put out at interest or in the purchase of property to use of nephews as stand next heir to said Manor and premises. All lands subject to payment of funeral charges in case personal estate falls short. Trustees given power to sell or mortgage such estates, if necessary to pay debts, legacies and funeral charges. Stephen Cook is desired to accept 10 guineas as acknowledgement of his work as Trustee.
