- Scope and ContentSamuel Perkins: a labourer of Harrold in the employment of William Rogers, a farmer. On the afternoon of 26 August he was hoeing turnips in a field called Barrowhills. He saw Ann Nichols, Elizabeth Nichols and Jane Matthews, in the next field, called Park Close. It was full of cut wheat. He saw Ann Nichols go to one of the shacks and take from it a sheaf of wheat. She took it out of the field and into Wood Road. The other 2 followed, and he saw them all go down Wood road to Harrold with a bundle of gleans on them. About half an hour later he went to the road and saw some straw where he had seen Ann Nichols with the wheat Sheaf. When he saw the 3 women in the field they had no gleans with them. They picked up a few from the ground; they had no right to glean there. The shack consisted of 6 wheat sheaves, and on looking after the women had gone, he found there to be one 5.
