- Scope and ContentI am about 21 years of age and was born in Clophill where my father Thomas Rainbow then resided but belonged to Goldington. In June 1825 I let myself to James Deane of St Ives, County of Huntingdon, waterman by the year to drive horses and other work and I continued with him about ten months when he failed and I left him in April 1826, he not having any employment for me. I then came to Bedford and worked by the day or week in hedging and such work. In March 1831 I let myself to Mr Pressland of Brickhill Farm, St Peter, Bedford and continued with him until Michaelmas then next. I have since worked by the week but have not done any act to gain a settlement in my own right. My mother Elizabeth rainbow has received relief from the parish officers of Goldington many times when she has been out of that parish. I have been employed by them as a roundsman there. My father was buried last October in the churchyard of St Cuthbert and the expense thereof paid by the parish officers of Goldington.
