- Scope and ContentI am 36 years of age, was born in St Paul, bedford where my father Daniel Swales then resided and belonged. When I was about 14 years of age I was placed out apprentice by the Trustees of Harpurs Charity to James Drage of Molesworth in the County of Huntington, tailor, for seven years by Indenture dated 8th October 1811 (now produced). I served four years of my apprenticeship at Molesworth with my Master when I ran away from him and enlisted in the 14th Regiment of Foot. I served in that regiment and in the 54th Regiment of Foot fourteen years and was discharged from the latter regiment in 1829 since which time I have not done any act to gain a settlement.
