Last Thursday he was walking up the Butts and met Francis Ratt who said they had found the ham. He said "what ham" - Ratt said Mr Higgs' ham, and that someone had been watching it. Aboput half an hour later he went up the Butts Lane and said to Bowers that Francis Ratt had told him there was a ham in the dunghill.
