The previous afternoon about 5.30pm as he was returning from his tea and going up to Donkey Hall, Luton to his work, John Childs came up to him, took hold of his collar and pushed him against the wall. Childs asked if he had any halfpence. He said he had, and Childs demanded 2 pence. He refursed to give it to him. Childs said "I'll be damm'd if I don't have two pence of you", then snatched his handkerchief out of his pocket and said he would keep it until he gave him 2d. Childs took the handkerchief away and he has not seen it since.
