    Ezra Hinds: on 17 November he wrapped up his spurs in a wash leather and put them in the pocket of his coat which was hanging in the cellar of the Barley Mow Public House in Luton, where he was lodging. On 19 November, on taking up the coat he found them gone. Robert Darby: on 17 November he was at his stall in Luton Market and William Ellis was showing some spurs to a man named Wilds. After some conversation he sold the spurs and a bit of washed leather to Darby for a pot of beer. John Millard: on 21 November he received the leather and spurs from Robert Darby. He later showed them to Hinds, who identified them as his. Ellis was in custody on another charge and said that he had been at work for Mrs Clark at the Barley Mow in the cellar. He picked up the spurs and sold them to Robert Darby. Matthias Clark: in the son of the landlord of the Barley Mow Public House, in Church Street Luton. Ezra Hinds lodged at his father’s house on 17 November and his coat was hanging on the cellar door. Ellis was at work there in the afternoon cleaning knives and shoes.Statement of the accused: nothing to say
