- Scope and ContentWilliam Chapman saieth that the paper writing now produced by him was received from the Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Higham Ferrers in the County of Northampton, bearing date 16 April 1770 and purports to be a certificate in the form of law under the hands and seals of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of Raunds in the County of Northampton who thereby certify, own and acknowledge John Knighton, staymaker, to be an inhabitant legally settled in the parish of Raunds. The certificate was directed to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said parish of Higham Ferrers and appears to have been duly allowed and signed on the 17th April 1770 by two Justices of the said County of Northampton. William Chapman further saieth that he hath been informed and believes it to be true that John Knighton the late husband of Elizabeth Knighton, widow was the son of the John Knighton named on the certificate.
