- Scope and ContentI am 22 years of age, was born in St John, Bedford where my father Robert Kemp resided and belonged. When I was about 14 years of age I was placed out apprentice by the Harpur Charity by Indentures dated 19th may 1824 for seven years to Henry Burnage of Ickwell Green, Northill, blacksmith. I lived with my Master in Northill five years and a quarter when he failed and I left him with his consent and have worked as a journeyman blacksmith for Mr Joseph Jordan in St Paul, Bedford and with sundry other persons as such and a labourer without allowing my Master any part of my earning or his ever requesting any from me. I have not done any other act to gain a settlement. My Master did not rent a house but he and i both lodged in the house of his father but my Master found our board . the shop and forge belonged to Mrs Hervey but I do not know who hired them. Most of the tools were the property of my Masters father.
