- Scope and ContentI am 28 years of age, was born in St Paul, Bedford where I believe my father - Sharp then resided but belonged to Stagsden to which parish he was removed about 15 years ago by orders of removal but I do not know from what parish. To the best of my knowledge at Michaelmas in the year 1817 I was let by my grandmother Ann Freeman to Mr Robert Sharp of Priory Farm, St Paul to serve him til following Michaelmas at the yearly wages of £2.10.0. i was then living apart from my father and mother. I enetered into the service of my Master about a fortnight after Michaelmas 1817 and served him til 11th October 1818. I then went to Barnet, County of Hertford to assist my Uncle William Freeman who was live in hostler at the Boar's headkept by Mary Goodman. When I went we entered into an agreement about my work or wages but I knew my business was to attend to the outdoor work of the house. They paid me no wages but I received the prerequisites of the Inn. i remained at the Boar's Head upon the same terms for two years and a half. My Uncle told me when I first went to Barnet that I might stop til I could get another place and he would look out for me. On one occasion he told me of a place in London but I never went after it. When I left Barnet I came to live at Bedford where I have resided ever since but to the best of my knowledge I have not done any act since I left Barnet to gain a settlement. I was married in 1825 at St Peter, Bedford to Frances Trolley by whom I have three children John aged 5 years, William aged 3 years and James aged six months or thereabouts who haas been ruptured from his birth.
