  • Scope and Content
I am about 46 years of age, was born in St John, Bedford. On 22nd October 1802 I was married at St John to Joseph Stock whom I have often heard declare his legal settlement to be in the parish of Oakley and that he obtained such settlement by a yearly service with Mr - Field, farmer. About 21 years ago my husband left me and I have not seen him since unless it was about five years ago and I think I then saw him in Bedford but I am not certain. I have one child living by my said husband named Elizabeth Stock about the age of 24 years living in service with Mr Joseph Kilpin of St Mary, Bedford, upholsterer for whom I received relief from the Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Oakley at the rate of one shilling per week from about 1814 until about 7 years ago. The money was paid to my father and mother residing in St John for my daughter who was unwell and living with them whilst I resided a great part of the time at Northampton. On the 18th March last I made application to Chelsea Hospital to know where my husband was and on the 25th of the same month the Secretary informed me by letter that Joseph Stock late of the First Veteran Battalion and an out pensioner of Chelsea Hospital at one shilling per day was entered in his books of his office to be paid his next Quarters Pension at Bristol.
