I am about 59 years of age, was born in Buntingford in the County of Hertford. From Michaelmas 1813 to Michaelmas 1814 I occupied a farm in the parish of Clapham of the Earl of Ashburnham by the yearly rent of about£150. On quitting the farm I went to reside on a freehold estate of mine in the same parish. When I had been there about four years I sold it to Thomas Chappell the Elder and then hired the same house of him at £26. I continued there till 1822. Then I went to a cottage in the same parish which I rented of Mr Thomas Chappell the younger at £4 a year where I continued until between Midsummer and Michaelmas 1827 when I came to reside at a cottage in Dines' Lane in St Paul, Bedford which I hired of John White by the rent of five pounds ten shillings. I continued in the occupation of the same tenement until November 1828 when I agreed to hire of him anothertenement adjoining under the same roof by the yearly rent of £13 for the whole. I entered upon the second tenement on 17th November which I occupied with my family until 6th January 1830 when I gave up the second tenement. I paid the rent for the whole of that period and have receipts. i was im prison for deby for about 9 days during my tenancy but my family continued inthe occupation of the whole of the premises. I was married at Clapham in September 1800 to my present wife Mary Allen with whom I have eleven children now living being namely Elizabeth Eling aged twenty eight now living with me, William Eling now settled at Barkway, County of Hertford, Mary Ann aged 26, Harriett about 23, James about 21 who was settled at Ampthill by apprenticeship with - Moody and who is now working as a journeyman in London. Maria aged 20 years married to Mr Henry Bissix and settled in America, Edward aged about 19 and Thomas about 17 both also settled in America, Anna aged about 15 who is an idiot, Agnes aged 9 years and Isabella aged 7 years.
