  • Scope and Content
John Squire: James Stanton had been in his employment for 3 months, carrying out bread to the customers. He was paid weekly. It was practice to count the loaves out in the morning and then Squire, or a family member would count them back in the afternoon. Stanton was to pay him all the money he had received and tell him who had taken bread on credit. John Primott, was a customer, in the habit of taking bread 2 or 3 times a week and he would pay on delivery. About a month past, Stanton told him that Primott had had bread but not paid. Squire thought it odd, and a day or two later, Stanton told him the same thing had happened again. Squire began to book Primott's debt of 4 shillings. About 2 weeks later Stanton left his service and he found out that Primott had paid Stanton for his bread on delivery. John Primott: had dealt with John Squire for sometime and Squire had been in business around 5 years. He took bread about 2 or 3 times a week. For the 3 months Stanton had bought round the cart, he had taken bread and either he or his wife had paid Stanton. They had never had credit.
