    By an order bearing date 25th April now last past under the hands and seals of Francis Green and John Green Esquires, two of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said town and both residing next unto the limits of the Parish Church within the said parish of St Paul in the said town one whereof is of the quorum, John Coles of the parish of St Mary, Bedford, coach painter was adjudged to be the reputed father of a male bastard child born of the body of Mary Ann Page in St Paul. It was by such order that the said John Coles should forthwith pay or cause to be paid to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of St Paul the sum of four pounds and thirteen shillings for the reasonable charges and expenses incidental to the birth of the said bastard child to time of making the said order. And also the further sum of 13 shillings and sixpence for the reasonable costs of apprehending and securing the said John Coles and the reasonable costs of obtaining the said order for the filiation of the said bastard child. Also the sum of two shillings to be paid weekly to the Overseers of St Paul for the time being for and towards the said maintenance of the said child for and during so long a time as the said bastard child should be chargeable to the parish of St Paul.John Coles has had due notice of the said order against which no appeal has been made and the sums of money in the order have not yet been paid. Demand of payment thereof has been made upon the said John Coles but he hath made default in payment thereof wherby the sum of six pounds eighteen shillings and sixpence is now due.The said William Chapman prays justice.
