    William Allen: on 19 November Henry Whitbread called on him to ask if he had anything to go to Cotton End. He said he had some shoes to go, but he did not intend Whitbread to take them, because he could put no dependence on him. Elizabeth Cowlland: on 19 November, Whitbread came to her husband’s beer shop in Broom. He told her that William Allen had told him to ask for some shoes to take to Cotton end. Allen had left the shoes with them the previous day. Sarah Lockey: Whitbread came to her husband’s public house, with shoes over his shoulder. He asked her to buy the shoes. He said Mr Allen of Biggleswade had asked him to sell them for him. She brought them from him. She ran a shop, which amongst other things, sold shoes.Statement of the accused: nothing to say
