- Scope and ContentJohn Neal: the accused was employed by Neal during the month of April. During this month, Neal missed a hatchet which had been kept in a manger in a hovel. He can't remember the date he first missed it. Robert Hart: on 21 October, whilst in Chawston, he went to the cottage of Mary Cullop, mother of the prisoner. Mary Cullop was removing her goods from her cottage and amongst the items he found the hatchet which John Neal had missed. Neal identified it as his. Hart asked the prisoner, Cullop, where he had obtained the hatchet and he said it had come from Mr Neal's hovel.
