About 42 years of age. Born in Tiffield, County of Northampton where his father resided and he believes belonged. His father died when this Examinant was about 14 years of age. This Examinant then let himself to Mr Payne of Thrupp, County of Northampton, farmer for part of a year for which he received fifty shillings and after that to a Mrs White of Stoke Bruern, County of Northampton, farmer for part of another yerar for which he received fifty five shillings. He is quite sure that he neither let himself for or served in either of the said places a year. When he had quitted Mrs White's service about a fortnight John Jordan of St Paul, Bedford, victualler and carrier (who had married this Examinant's mother's sister) sent for him to come and supply his (this Examinant's) brother Williams place who had lived as a servant with his Uncle for two years and had just quitted him. This Examinant then came to Bedford and lived with the said John Jordan in St Paul, Bedford for about 2 years as servant for which he had his board, lodging, clothes washing and other necessaries with occasional small sums of money given him. When he quitted his Uncle John Jordan he let himself to Mr Campion, St Mary, Bedford, surgeon, he thinks it was at Michaelmas 1803 for a year at wages of £8. He continued in that service until the month of April following when he enlisted in the army about 11 years. This Examinant also saieth that he does not know that there was any certain time mentioned for his stopping at his Uncles yet he should not have been willing to have left him without warning. He has not done any other act to gain a settlement. in April 1816 he was married at St John, Bedford to Sarah Constant by whom he has one child living named Ann aged 9 years. Not signed or dated.
