When he was about 14 years of age he was placed out apprentice by the Trustees of Harpur's Charity to William Dawkins of All Saints, Northampton, shoemaker, for seven years by Indenture ated 23 october 1818. he served the last four years of his apprenticeship in All Saints and has not done subsequent act to gain a settlement. On 9 January 1827 at St Cuthbert, Bedford he married Elizabeth Dazeley.
