- Scope and ContentAbout 47 years of age. Born in Guilden Morden, County of Cambridge, where his father Thomas Charter then resided and belonged. When he was about 16 he let himself about Michaelmas to Mr Joseph Negus of [Shingay cum] Wendy, County of Cambridge, farmer, for a year as general servant in husbandry at the wages of three pounds. He served there more than a year and received his full wages. He soon after enlisted in the Army without having done any act to gain a settlement. On 6 August 1826 he was married at St Peter to Elizabeth Bright.
