    Joseph Page Barnes: was asked by Constable Clay if he could identify a piece of wood as belonging to Mr How. He examined the wood and found it to resemble a piece of wood he had used to support the side plate of the saw pit at Mr How's premises at Woburn Firs. he had not worked there for the past 6 weeks. William Clay: was visiting Mr Hurdle a carpenter of Aspley Guise when the accused came along with a piece of wood over his shoulder and one under his arm. When asked where he had got the wood from, he eventually said he had found it in the spinney nr Mr How's. After taking the prisoner into custody he searched his house and found a pair of pincers and some holdfasts. When taked into custody Perry originally gave his name as Smith. Samuel Sanders: was bailiff to Mr How's and able to identify the pincers and holdfasts as the property of Mr How.
