    Mary Snook, wife of Francis Snook of Woburn, victualler - about 4.15pm the previous afternoon James Wight and his wife Jane came into the tap room and asked for a pint of ale. She drew it in the bar and gave it to them, then left them alone in the tap room. Her cradle was in the tap room and the handkerchief was in the cradle when she left. About 10 minutes later James Wight came into the and paid for the ale. She went into the bar to get change. Jane Wight came out of the tap room, spoke to her husband and returned to the tap room. Wight took the change, left by the street door and his wife followed. Wight went up the street towards his work and his wife went to the house of Joseph Norman opposite where they lodged. She went into the tap room and missed the handkerchief. Sarah Burnage, wife of Joseph Burnage of Woburn, labourer - was called the previous evening by Joseph Norman to search Wight's wife for some money which had been stolen. She helped search her, but found no money. Mrs Norman asked her to search tehbed where Wight and his wife slept - they did so and found a half penny. She took the feather bed off and found a ripped seam in the straw bed underneath, where the straw had been disturbed. She put in her hand and found the blue and white handkerchief now produced. Susan Norman, wife of Joseph Norman of Woburn, labourer - James Wight and his wife lodge at her house. Money had been taken out of the box of another lodger in her house and Wight's wife was searched. She went with Sarah Burnage to seach the bed and found the handkerchief. About 4.05pm James Wight came to take his tea with his wife. They went across to Mr Snook's. Wight did not return. His wife returned about 5pm and then went out again. Jane Wight - knows nothing about taking the handkerchief. [2nd entry] After she and her husband had been at Mr Snook's she went over there again for half a pint of ale and found the handkerchief lying at the front door.
