    John Crutchley: Lived in Church Lane, Odell. He was up before daylight on the day the sheep was stolen. He was on the footpath near Odell field when he saw 2 men, one he could identify as Charles Foskett, carrying heavy loads. This was between 4am and 5am. Joseph Neal: apprehended Charles Foskett on suspicion of stealing Mr Pain's sheep. On the way to the lock up Foskett told him he had taken half of the sheep to his home. Henry Jebbett: Foskett made a statement to him in the presence of Crouch. Foskett stated that he and Crouch had been courting 2 girls, and had left Pavenham at 2am, and killed the sheep. They divided it, each taking half. He identified the field in which the sheep had been killed. William Green: apprehended William Crouch at Odell. Crouch acknowledged that he and Foskett had been together on the night of the theft. Crouch denied nothing but said he could say a great deal.
