About 22 years of age. When he was about fourteen he was placed out apprentice by the trustees of the Harpur Charity to Samuel Constant, St John, Bedford, gardener, by Indenture for seven years. He served the whole of his apprenticeship and has not done any other act to gain settlement. On 24 October was married at St John, Bedford to Sophia Fleming.
