- Scope and ContentJohn Burrows of Luton, carpenter - works for Mr Williams, builder of Luton who sent for him the previous night to watch his coals at his brick kiln. Peter Scrivener went with him. About 8.15pm Bartlett came, took out a ladder, went down the hole and put some coals in a sack he brought with him. He came back up the ladder and went 50 or 60 yards. He caught Bartlett and gave him into the custody of Booth the constable. Peter Scrivener - attested to truth of Burrows statement. He took the sack and coals to Luton - there was about half a hundred of coals in the sack.
