- Scope and ContentIssac Keech: also the keeper of the Red Lion public house. The accused and Joseph Pool requested lodging for the night. The next morning they were not yet awake when Keech left for the farm. He later met the accused in the street. He was suspicious so asked his wife to look in the room which they had slept. A pair of stockings was missing. On approaching the men, along with the police constable, Millard was found to be wearing the missing stockings. He ran off into a bean field and reappear without the stocking, saying he’d left them in the field. William Barton: was present when the accused was found to be wearing the missing stockings.Statement of the accused: he did not intend to steal the stockings but had intended to pull them off after breakfast.
